Coaching and Mentoring in Education

Study detals

: Master's degree : PC (Hons) Coaching and Mentoring in Education : Part-time : 12 Month

Requirements

Degree Overview

This course will give you a repertoire of powerful techniques - such as incisive questioning, active listening, goal setting and effective feedback - that will greatly enhance your practice. We will also guide you through some of the most insightful literature in the field and encourage you to critically engage with it. You will increase your own self-awareness using psychometric testing, journal writing and peer coaching. Throughout this single module programme, you will develop your capabilities as a reflective writer and keep a journal in order to evaluate your own coaching and mentoring. The course is an opportunity to develop your leadership and management skills, either to support new teachers’ induction into the profession, or to help more established colleagues to realise their potential.

Study Reasons

  • Students on the course will already be in employment. However, the course provides continuing professional development that will enable students to develop their personal and professional interests in coaching and mentoring, either as an end in itself, or to develop knowledge, skills and understanding as part of their developing ambitions in leadership and management.
  • You will deepen your thinking about a specific aspect of coaching and/or mentoring and present your findings to fellow students in order to develop a supportive, professional community. You will also practise coaching and mentoring and demonstrate your competence by recording and critically reflecting on a coaching/mentoring session.
  • The course is delivered through stimulating, interactive workshops at Roehampton, on weekday evenings and weekends. There will also be blended learning sessions and online forums. The assessment has two components - a presentation on a specific aspect of coaching/mentoring and a short film of your practice as a coach/mentor with an accompanying commentary.
