Degree Overview

Psychology is the scientific study of the mind and behaviour. Topics we cover include how babies learn, the way in which people’s mental skills change as they grow older, personalities types, and social group dynamics. You will also study different psychological disorders.

You will also learn how to think critically and to solve problems. We will teach you to analyse data, write clearly and effectively, and be a confident communicator of science. You will learn how to plan, implement, and analyse your own research project.

At Levels 1 and 2 you’ll also study additional Social Science subjects, such as Geography, Politics, and Life Sciences modules for those that are eligible.

Our student-run Psychology Society organises social events, study skills sessions, and a range of academic and career-oriented talks.

This course is accredited by the British Psychological Society (BPS). If you receive a 2.2 degree or higher, you will be eligible for Graduate Basis for Chartered Membership of the British Psychological Society. This is a necessary step if you wish to undertake postgraduate or professional study accredited by the Society.

Study Reasons

The need for Psychology graduates is growing. Populations are aging, societies are facing a post-pandemic mental health crisis, income inequality is increasing, and more and more data about our lives is easily available. In the current climate, the knowledge and skills that psychologists can bring to help address societal challenges is undeniable.

When you join Psychology at Dundee, you will have access to dedicated careers support, both during and after your studies, through the Careers Service. This includes 1-1 advice on constructing your cv and preparing for interviews. During this UG degree, you may have the opportunity to complete an internship module to help explore future career options. Students also benefit from the guidance of our academic staff, who have a network of connections with practitioners, policy makers, and charities, see our Art at the Start and Early Language in Play projects as examples.

A degree in psychology will provide you with skills and knowledge that can be used in many different types of professional careers.
