Foundation Programme required

English language

The standard University requirement is 6.0* with no sub-test less than 5.5 (or equivalent) on IELTS, or on the university's own entry test BASALT. Conditional offers to international students will be made on this basis.

IELTS - at least 6.0*, with at least 5.5 in each of the four sub-tests (speaking, listening, reading, writing).

TOEFL - at least 80*, and sub-tests not less than 18 in Reading, 17 in Writing, 17 in Listening and 20 in Speaking if you require a Student Visa.

Other qualifications which may be accepted:

There are other English language qualifications which may be accepted. For example, the University of Bradford also recognises:

  • Cambridge Advanced Certificate - grade C or above
  • Cambridge Proficiency Certificate - grade C or above

Speciality

Pathways Available: International Foundation Year | International Year Zero

Sandwich course fees - charged during the placement year away from the University of Bradford for students on thick sandwich courses, or during the year in which the second placement falls for students on thin sandwich courses.  Students charged at 10% of the equivalent full-time fee.

If a placement year is to be undertaken abroad and supported by University funding through the University’s exchange programmes, fees will increase to 15% of standard fees to cover additional support, advice and administration costs.

Degree Overview

This degree programme has particular emphasis on the blend between the technical and creative aspects of games design, you’ll be introduced to the core theories that underpin the discipline and use these to guide your practical work and, in turn, gain the vocational experience needed to embark on a career in this fast-growing industry.
This course is taught by an industry experienced team of academics including Carlton Reeve, a consultant for commercial AR games and Peter Chapman, who runs his own digital agency. Therefore, you will benefit from talks and workshops delivered by industry experts like Michael Ogden, Iki Ikram and Ben Smith. The high level of industry knowledge and insight gained here will provide you with the knowledge base you need to emerge as a confident and competent graduate.

Throughout your studies you will have regular access to state-of-the-art facilities like the six camera Motion Capture Suite and technical equipment which you can use to put theory into practice and enhance your skillset. You will have the chance to borrow equipment for you own personal projects too.

The department has close links with a number of prominent organisations. This includes the resident Working Academy placement agency and Game Republic (the Yorkshire games industry association), of which we are member. With access to such prestigious partners you’ll have plenty of opportunities to gain extracurricular experience that will enable you to emerge as a highly desired and capable graduate.
