If English is not your first language an IELTS score of 6.0 overall with 5.5 in each band (or equivalent) when you start the course is essential.

Degree Overview

This degree programme – the only BA in Music Technology in the country – has been designed to link creative vision with deep technical understanding. Teaching staff on this course will help you explore and develop creatively and technically, equipping you with the skills to shape your future in the music industry.

When studying with us you will be able to choose from a wide range of modules to tailor your knowledge of Music Technology: half of your modules from arts-oriented BA options and the other half from technology-oriented BSc options. Modules that you will explore include Performing with Technology, Procedural Programming for Music, Location recording, Plugin Development and Ensemble Recording.

You’ll learn how to create new and innovative musical performance models and develop existing ones. Also, produce projects involving both solo and small group performances, and learn how to document and evaluate your work. At the same time, you will learn about audio engineering fundamentals and how science and engineering underpin the technology used for sound creation and production.

Throughout your studies at DMU, emphasis is placed upon gaining practical experience and applying it in professional studios to prepare you for your future career, whether that is within the media and music industries, or striking out on your own as an independent freelance creative.

Students learn a range of skills in on-location, live, AV and studio production, allowing you to pursue a career in music production, audio engineering, sound design, remixing and mastering, radio, TV or games.
